Director of the Consortium for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB)

Office of the Vice President for Research
University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota seeks a Director of the Consortium for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB), a new interdisciplinary research program. Reporting to the Vice President for Research, the Director will provide intellectual leadership and direction to CBCB, foster collaborations with experimental biology groups, and lead efforts to compete nationally for research and training grants. Candidates must have distinguished records of research in the development or application of computation in molecular systems biology. Prior leadership experience of a disciplinary program or successful start up of an interdisciplinary program is desirable.

The Director of CBCB will hold a tenured position in an appropriate department at the University of Minnesota and will be expected to continue an active research career as well as develop strategies to compete nationally in new interdisciplinary research and training programs. A minimum of four new entry-level, tenure track faculty members will be hired as a core to establish a leading-edge research agenda. Startup funds will allow the Director to recruit appropriate support staff, acquire substantial hardware and software systems, provide seed funding for additional projects, and hire administrative support. CBCB will also have access to the computational resources and technical support staff of the Digital Technology Center and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute. The Director of CBCB will be expected to develop collaborative relationships with University research teams already in place, establish an appropriate seminar/symposium series, and lead the development of graduate training programs. The Director will also be expected to establish links for potential collaboration with the private sector and to secure external funding to further expand CBCB. A Ph.D., or equivalent, is required.

For further information about the position or CBCB in general, see the web page, http://www.cbcb.umn.edu/.
